Absolutely. Booking direct means you can discuss requirements with us (e.g any accessibility needs).
Our prices will be lower than other third-party agents and you get more flexibility e.g. free car parking, earlier arrival times and more flexible cancellation policies.
We are a short walk, about 8-10 minutes to the City Walls and Minster.
Yes, we do have a private car park which is free to use for guests who book directly with us either by telephone or on-line. Car parking is limited and is preferentially given to direct booking customers.
For guests who book through third party agents (e.g. Expedia or Booking.com) there is a daily charge. If you have a Blue Badge, you can also park on the front roadside.
It is about a 20-minute walk from the train station.
However, if you are carrying heavy bags, it may be easier to book a cab to meet you on arrival (e.g Streamline 01904 65 65 65), get a taxi from the station rank or hop on the No. 13 or 14 bus and get off at Lowther Street.

Yes all rooms have a private en-suite in the room with a shower. We have no bedrooms with baths.
We have a full description of the accessibility policy on our website. Our guest house was built in 1864, so there are a quite a few steps and we have no lift.

We do not take Stag or Hen parties or large groups of single sex bookings.

Yes, we provide a range of options (plus Vegan, Vegetarian and Coeliac) including many homemade items, (butter, breads, bagels, preserves, sausages and even cheese!).

No. There are a lot of restaurants and pubs within close distance.
We are happy to provide recommendations. As new restaurants are always opening in York just ask us when you book.
Check in is between 3pm and 7pm (6pm on a Sunday). We try to accommodate early arrivals but you should ask us in advance. Check-out is by 10:30am.
Typically you can cancel free of charge 5 days prior to arrival and then will pay 50% if its less than a full five days and 100% if less than three days.
Cancellation terms on some of the third-party sits may vary so please check. By booking directly you get the most flexible policies and if something unexpected happens at the last we may be able to reschedule the booking or reduce the cancellation charge.
We do not provide cots and ask guests to bring their own travel cot. Some of our rooms are a larger than others so please check in advance if the room is suitable.
Sorry we do not accept pets, largely due to the potential issue of other guests who may have pet allergies.
The key differences between a bed and breakfast (B&B), guest house, and a hotel lie in their size, atmosphere and facilities. B&B’s are often people’s homes and tend to have a smaller (1-3) number of rooms with guests sharing facilities and spaces alongside the owners.
Guest Houses, like ours , are also owner managed and typically larger with more facilities (e.g. we provide a guest lounge, honesty bar, a garden and have a private car park.
Hotels, on the other hand, are larger commercial establishments, often impersonal chains. They may provide added facilities such as lifts, restaurants, room service and often include a 24-hour reception.
However, our visitors find they get a more personalised welcome, access to our local knowledge on attractions and restaurants, pubs and our breakfasts are cooked using fresh local ingredients with lots of homemade items rather than mass produced.
