At Monkbridge House, we love supporting local businesses and experiencing the true taste of York! We've put together a list of our favorite independent restaurants, cafes, bakeries, and ice cream spots – all within easy reach and highly recommended by us (and often, our guests!).

Ambiente Tapas

Set in a historic Georgian building, ijust near MonkBar,  with cosy nooks and crannies, offers delicious Spanish-inspired tapas, platters, and paellas.

Little Italy

Perfectly situated between the historic York Minster and the iconic Monk Bar, and only 5 minutes from us, this is our favourite Italian restaurant in York

Yakamoz

We love Yakamoz - authentic flavours from Turkey. Grills, hot and cold Mezzes to die for. Fresh salads and plenty of choice for everyone.

York Minster Refectory

Located with stunning views of York Minster, the York Minster Refectory boasts a historic setting that many of our visitors love. It serves e old-fashioned British-style favourites with a new take through Anglicised French classics.

Centre of Town

Fish&Forest

Fish&Forest is a casual fine dine bistro with a bit of soul that specialises in fish, seafood and game. Menu always changing depending on season.

Forest Galtres

Forest Galtres is a warm, cosy, relaxed, and rustic restaurant, and a place to come at any time of the day for traditional british classics (breakfast, lunch, dinner, or even just a quick drink and a snack)

Los Moros

Colourful North African food in the centre of York with a. courtyard garden (also has a street food store in the shambles).

Rustique

Rustique specialises in rustic French cooking in a busy, vibrant upbeat Bistro atmosphere in the centre of town.

Fine Dining

Melton’s

Lovely intimate restaurant for upmarket Modern British dishes including a Yorkshire tasting menu. In Bishopthorpe – probably a cab ride from us.

Roots

Roots is a Michelin-starred restaurant in the heart of York by Tommy Banks, offering innovative tasting menus and Sunday Feast menus

Skosh

Modern, inventive small plates. A unique dining experience. Perfect for a special evening.

Star Inn The City

Riverside dining with a focus on local Yorkshire produce. Great for a celebratory meal with a view.

Pubs With Good Food

Guy Fawkes Inn

Standing next to York Minster, the Guy Fawkes Inn was the birthplace of the notorious plotter, Guido Fawkes. The Inn offers traditional British Food.

The Fat Badger

Located just next to Botham Bar with views of the Minster from its hidden garden courtyard. Ala Carte pub food and good beer.

The Royal Oak

The Royal Oak is our local, jist 10 mins walk. It offers traditional pub classics, a great Sunday lunch and the bar has a good selection of local ales

Afternoon Tea

Bettys Café Tea Rooms York

Experience the charm of Bettys York Café Tea Rooms, where tradition meets exquisite flavours.  A “to do” on many people list.

The Grand, York

Iindulge in the best contemporary take on Afternoon Tea in York, with optional Champagne and English Sparkling upgrades perfect for special occasions.

The Old York Tea Room has a warm cosy environment in the oldest house in York. Not on the same scale as some of its rivals but we love it.
